Today, I drove past a man on a corner in Detroit holding a sign that said “I see greatness in you!” And he looked in everyone’s windows as we went by and pointed right at us so we knew he meant us.
He didn’t know who we were, what we were going through, where we had come from or where we are going. He didn’t know our circumstances and it didn’t matter. He was spreading love and positivity with a smile on his face and a rhythm in his headphones. He said it and made our day better, no matter how brief. And for others, we’re still thinking about it.
He said it to perfect strangers – when was the last time you said it to someone you love? So, make the phone call. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Give your best friend a hug and with everything you have – all the light and love – mean what you say and share that little bit with someone who may really need to hear it. Or share it with someone you say it to everyday but it doesn’t make it any less true. Do it because the world needs it. We need it.
And remember, I see greatness in you.
